Placido Domingo in the title role was a privilege to watch, as well as listen to. His presence is huge, and his acting excellent. The young tenor Joseph Calleja as Gabriel Adorno, was a revelation,and the whole cast was first class. The orchestra, led by Antonio Pappano,played Verdi's beautiful score with great sensitivity to the singers, and the decor was sober and dramatic.
In short, it was wonderful!
